Too far gone

"Memories of you surround me...

Down by the riverbed
Where we first met
I left my silver ring
And you left your cigarettes

Wearing that famous Stetson hat
And I was in a white sundress
You were my cowboy
And I was your princess

Twenty three years ago
Under the Texas sky
We shared our dreams
That warm summer in July

A violin and a steel guitar
The music is the key
The sound of breaking hearts
I write for you and you sing for me

Don't look back
Just keep moving on
And I'll sing you this song
There's nothing left
It's too far gone

Too far gone

Not a star left to wish upon
Nothing more to say
Let my memory fade
Look the other way

I got up off my knees
Wiped the clouds from my eyes
O my soul, O my soul
Still holding on to our demise

Don't look back
Just keep moving on
And I'll sing you this song
There's nothing left
It's too far gone

Too far gone

Lift my hands to the Heavens
Sometimes letting go is divine
Whiskey makes you weak
Don't listen or you'll misread the sign

There's a time and a season
But honey we know to well
Our bridge has overflown
It's our love's last farewell

Don't look back
Just keep moving on
And I'll sing you this song
There's nothing left
It's too far gone

Too far gone

My wings are tarnished
And it's hard for me to fly
As my tears fall upon your boots
Tip your hat and say goodbye

Don't look back
Just keep moving on
And I'll sing you this song
There's nothing left
It's too far gone

Too far gone

Baby, I held on
I held on
For much too long

...and I'm afraid the tears might drown me"

Gary Allan ~ Bourbon Borderline

I wake up in the morning full of dread
Tryin' to remember what I said
I say that I won't call you
And I mean it every time
Until I cross that bourbon borderline

I wish that I could tell you why I call
Sometimes it's just hard for me, that's all
I know that it's over and it's just a waste of time
Until I cross that bourbon borderline

Memories of you surround me
And I'm afraid the tears might drown me
Oh, I think I'm doing fine
Until I cross that bourbon borderline

It's good that I just do this now and then
You know I'm really not a drinkin' man
But I can't bare to talk about us any other time
Until I cross that bourbon borderline

Memories of you surround me
And I'm afraid the tears might drown me
Oh, I think I'm doing fine
Until I cross that bourbon borderline

Oh, I think I'm doing fine
Until I cross that bourbon borderline

How is this poem sung Lisa? It is very well composed, deeply felt and the youtube that you posted also reinforced the emotions surrounding your poetry.

E' bellissima! I'd like to hear it played sometime :)

Yes sometimes we hold on for too long Lisa. Such a heart felt poem. It brought to my mind that I have been holding on to something for too long and it is time for me to let for as you said that letting go is sometimes divine. Just loved this poem, so close to my heart.

@Martha J. M. Orlando Thank you for the SWEET compliment! Blessings to you also.

@Melissa Grazie tanto BELLA! The chorus came to me in a dream, it's beautiful. I just wrote around the chorus. ;)

@Harmony Courtney Thank you so much. I appreciate you reading and commenting too!

@Rimly Bezbarua Yes, if we hold on for too long, it is actually more painful. But at the same time, it is hard to let go of LOVE! I'm glad you loved it and it was close to your heart. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Jessica M Thank you so much! I'm glad you were drawn in! ;)
